The fact is that the darkened optics do not shine so brightly, which is quite risky at night, when the probability of an accident is even higher. That is why it is important that the film on the car passes at least 85 % of the light. This is the main rule that should be taken as a basis.

Types of films for tinting

The classification of headlight dimming films is based on the color, thickness, transparency, and type of material. Among the huge variety of shades, you can choose a film to match the color of the car. And if you change your mind, you can easily replace the product with another one.

The most popular types of films are:

  • Frosted. They are best suited for vehicles with a matte finish. They look incredibly stylish and expensive.
  • Glossy, allowing you to achieve a smooth and almost imperceptible transition from the optics to the body. Protect the headlights from the appearance of scratches, cracks, clouding, etc.
  • Chameleon. An interesting option, both for retro cars of bright colors, and for modern foreign cars of basic shades. This coating shimmers during the operation of the headlights and has a high light transmission capacity.
  • Metallized with a characteristic charcoal hue are able to reflect most of the infrared radiation. Their main advantage is that they do not burn out over time.
According to the material of manufacture, vinyl and polyurethane film are distinguished. The vinyl coating has a minimum thickness and is suitable for tinting headlights with a ribbed body. But this material is not particularly strong.
While the polyurethane film is 2-3 times thicker and stronger than vinyl, it is easy to apply and remove, quite elastic and able to withstand sudden temperature changes (vinyl cracks in the cold from -15 °C). However, polyurethane coating is more expensive than vinyl by 50, and sometimes by 150%.
