Vinyl or polyurethane film: what to choose

PPF is made of vinyl (PVC) or polyurethane, and both varieties have disadvantages and advantages.

Pros and cons of PPF made of different materials

Polyvinychloride is used for the manufacture of vinyl films. It performs a decorative rather than a practical function – it is available in different colors, can imitate the structure of wood or metal. Such a film can protect not only the body, but also the interior of the car – it is painted with patterns for the bumper of a car, after which they are pasted on the surface.

The main disadvantage of vinyl is low strength. It can protect the coating from sandblasting, sloppy washing or aggressive chemicals. But in the case of serious mechanical impacts, impacts or the consequences of an unsuccessful parking film, this material is powerless, since it does not have the necessary properties. Most car owners choose vinyl because of its low cost, ease of operation, a wide variety of colors and textures.

Polyurethane is more durable and reliable. It is able to protect the car from large stones, ultraviolet radiation and other negative factors. Another important feature of the material is the ability to self-repair. Under the influence of heat, it takes its original shape, so small scratches disappear without additional effort. The polyurethane film stretches well, so it is suitable for surfaces of any shape, and if necessary, it does not leave traces on them. The service life of the material is 5-7 years, whereas vinyl needs to be changed after 1-2 years. The only drawback of polyurethane is the high cost. Pasting with polyurethane film will cost 4-5 times more expensive than vinyl.
